Social
You will have many opportunities to interact with fellow guild members both at guild functions and on a day-to-day basis. This contact develops great friendships, valuable learning experiences, personal motivation and inspiration.

Display and Sale of Work
As a member of the guild you are encouraged to show  your original artwork. You can do this by exhibiting in the Guild’s Monthly Show. You can further increase your exposure by becoming a Wall or  Floor Exhibitor.

Free Shrink Wrap and Card Display
Members may put two large and three small shrink wraps in the gallery bin.  Ten cards may also be displayed.

Web Page
Members may have one thumbnail of their art work posted on the SDAG website. In addition a member may have their own web page on the SDAG site. Contact the webmistress, Carol Korfin at ckorfin@gmail.com for more details regarding your own webpage.

Recognition
Each monthly show is judged and ribbons are awarded in several categories (reproductions of original artwork are not eligible for ribbons or cash awards).

Continued Learning
Members can attend free demonstrations three times a year by well-known artists. Please refer to the Paint Rag newsletter and the Events page of this website for the location and time. These program are made possible, in part, by a grant from the City of Encinitas. The demos are open to the public.

Information
You will receive a copy of our Gallery Handbook and Membership Directory with complete contact information. You will also receive our monthly newsletter, the Paint Rag. The Paint Rag keeps you abreast of upcoming Guild events and member activities.

Paint Outs
About ten years ago a few dedicated plein aire painters went out into one of the myriad of beautiful places in North Coastal San Diego County to capture the light and atmosphere of the day.  Today they are still at it.  This diverse group meets to paint in such varied locations as Torrey Pines State Reserve in Del Mar, Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, and Batiquitos Lagoon in La Costa to name only a few of the challenging spots.  You can join them every Tuesday throughout the year (check the Paint Rag for location).

Mother's Day Artists' Studio and Garden Tour
This is SDAG’s big annual show/home tour and is a proven success as a local event and is a major sales activity.  Members are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways.

Community Liaison
It is the Guild's policy to be a good neighbor and to participate to the extent possible in civic events in the area.

Membership Obligations

Membership is renewed every September 1st. New members joining in the preceding months of July and August are deemed current through the following year.

Members are asked and expected to participate in the functioning of the guild. It is an entirely volunteer organization.

Monthly Show
Please note that the take-in time for the Monthly Show has been changed. The handbook lists the time in the morning. The take-in time is now from 3:30 to 6:00 pm.
Wall artwork for the monthly show is divided into three categories -  1) under 17" measured on the diagonal; 2) between 17" and 36" measured on the diagonal; and 3) over 36" imeasured on the diagonal.  Contact Lynn Ely at lynnarts@yahoo.com  for more details on these categories and  also about exhibiting  3-dimensional work. All monthly show entries must remain on display for the entire month unless sold. They may then be replaced with a similar size replacement.

Wall/Floor Exhibitor
After participation in three monthly shows, members may apply for wall or floor (jewelry and three dimensional artwork) space. Juries for these spaces take place on a quarterly basis: February, May, August  and November, on the second Tuesday of the month.  Once juried in members are placed on a waiting list.  When space is available artists are contacted and offered a contract for wall or floor space.  Wall/Floor Exhibitors must staff the gallery once a month.   Additionally, each exhibitor must volunteer on a committee, as a Board Member, or for events throughout the year.  Please contact Patricia Eldon at pjeldon@sbcglobal.net for more information about Wall Exhibitors and Linda Melvin at painter197@aol.com for more information about Floor Exhibitors.

Sales Taxes
The gallery collects applicable California State Sales taxes on all sales, which are paid directly to the State. SDAG is a 501 C-4 organization.

Gallery Attendance
The gallery is open daily (except Christmas and New Years) from 10 AM to 6 PM (with extended evening, weekend hours during the summer months) during which time it is attended by members in 4-hour shifts. Wall and Floor Exhibitors (not monthly show exhibiters) are required to attend the gallery for one  shift per month.

Additional Member Responsibilities
SDAG is a volunteer organization. All members will be asked and are expected to perform various tasks from time to time and to support the organization as needed.
